Academic Mentoring

The Academic Mentoring Programme provides professional support and development for academic staff. The programme is administered by the Research Office and the Centre for Academic Development, led and supported by a Mentoring Reference Group and sponsored by the Vice-Provosts (Research) and (Academic & Equity).

The aims of the programme are:

  • To encourage and support the development of academic skills and organisational knowledge that will enable staff to operate more confidently and successfully in the University environment.
  • To assist in the development of academic careers through interaction with more ‘experienced’ colleagues.

Benefits for mentees include:

  • Personal and professional support, outside one’s School or Faculty if so desired
  • Access to organisational knowledge and specialist information
  • Ongoing work relationships and friendships
  • Enhanced motivation

Benefits for mentors include:

  • Personal development as a result of working closely with another person
